Senator Charles Schumer

In Washington accidentally telling the truth is referred to as a “gaffe”. I suppose that is why a staffer for a New York senator called what he accidentally let slip to the media yesterday a gaffe…because he certainly told the truth.

Sen. Chuck Schumer was right when he told four fellow Democratic congress critters…and, accidentally, some members of the media…that he had been instructed by his handlers, the Senate Democratic Caucus, to demonize Republicans as extremists in the current budget battle.

In a conference call with four fellow senators, Sen. Schumer…thinking the invited media had not yet joined the call…told his colleagues of plans to paint house Majority Leader Boehner “into a box” by characterizing republicans as extremists who were taking their orders from the tea partiers, saying:

“I always use the word ‘extreme’. That’s what the (Democratic) caucus told me to do.”

What a refreshing breath of fresh air…the truth out of a Washington politician. Maybe more folks in Washington…on both sides f the aisle…should follow Schumer’s lead and be truthful more often, in public as well as when they think no one is listening.

The second…and most important…thing Sen. Schumer’s unscripted remark shows is why congress…both parties, both chambers, and the president…always seems to be doing anything except the will of “we the people”.

Obamacare was forced on the country because politicians…Republicans and Democrats, representatives, senators, and presidents…take their marching orders from the party caucus, the big corporate donors, the K Street lobbyists, or “groups” like unions, the ABA’s trial lawyers, the NRA and AARP…anyone EXCEPT “we the people”.

Congress refuses to address our national debt in a rational manner because politicians…Republicans and Democrats, representatives, senators, and presidents…take their marching orders from the party caucus, the big corporate donors, the K Street lobbyists, or “groups” like unions, the ABA’s trial lawyers, the NRA and AARP…anyone EXCEPT “we the people”.

The United States moves further and further away from the small, unobtrusive, constitutional government intended by our founding fathers because politicians…Republicans and Democrats, representatives, senators, and presidents…take their marching orders from the party caucus, the big corporate donors, the K Street lobbyists, or “groups” like unions, the ABA’s trial lawyers, the NRA and AARP…anyone EXCEPT “we the people”.

The tea partiers, while not perfect, come the closest to any group I can think of that mirrors the thoughts of “we the people” regarding government, yet that is the group that is the most demonized by the progressive left…because they are afraid. They saw a small sample of tea party power in the recent mid-terms and it scared them, thus the instructions to Schumer to use the word “extreme”.

Well Chuckie, I’d suggest you…and others in Washington…quit taking your orders from the usual suspects and start listening to the tea party and “we the people”.

You don’t have to. You do have a choice. You can choose to ignore we the people, choosing instead to polish up your resume..because we will change our politicians like most folks change their underwear.

Which do I enjoy the most? It’s a toss up between fishin’ and baiting politicians.
